Sculpture Trail at Ku-ring-gai Wildflower Garden

Location: Kurringai Wildflower Garden (420 Mona Vale Road, St Ives)

Year 9 Visual Arts students are commencing a new unit on sculpture, with a focus on using found objects and recycled materials. As part of their creative process and to gather inspiration, students will attend the Ku-ring-gai Sculpture Trail at the Wildflower Garden in St Ives. The Sculpture Trail showcases works created from recycled and natural materials by professional, emerging, and student artists. During the excursion, students will view and respond to selected sculptures, make observational sketches, and reflect on the ways artists transform discarded or natural materials into artworks. The experience will directly inform their practical work back at school, encouraging connections between sustainability, environmental awareness, and contemporary artmaking. Transport will be by the school mini-bus, driven by Mr Buttrey. Students will remain on designated paths within the Sculpture Trail, under direct supervision.

Hotel Rwanda Film Permission - 11 Modern History

As part of our study of the Rwandan Genocide in Modern History, students will be viewing the film Hotel Rwanda (M, 2004). This film provides a dramatized account of the events during the 1994 genocide and supports students’ understanding of the conflict, key historical figures, and international responses. Students will examine Hotel Rwanda as a popular representation of historical events to assess its accuracy and validity in portraying the Rwandan Genocide. The film contains mature themes including: Mild nudity/sexual themes e.g. image of a woman breastfeeding, a scene with women shown in underwear/bras in a camp wired cage. Violent scenes e.g. scenes of massacres/murders using machetes/guns, scenes of people being pushed/beaten/threatened, images of dead bodies. However, a majority of the scenes of violence are not explicit/are shown from a distance. Moderate use of profanity e.g. use of the F word twice in the film. Mild scenes involving drinking/smoking e.g. various scenes where people are offered and drink alcoholic beverages. Subtle reference to suicide. If you do not wish to provide permission for your child to view this film, alternative work will be provided for them to complete.

Preliminary Legal Studies NSW State Parliament Visit 2025

Preliminary Legal Studies students will visit NSW State Parliament for the Legal Studies and the Legislature program, which will commence at approximately 9.30am. This is a non-sitting day. The Legal Studies and the Legislature programs at the Parliament of NSW are based on Part 1: The Legal System and Part II: The individual and the law of the Legal Studies Syllabus. On non-sitting days students participate in a 90-minute workshop and then a 30minute tour of the chambers. Students who participate in Legal Studies and the Legislature will develop an understanding of the nature and functions of law through the examination of the law-making processes and institutions. There is no cost for this excursion.
