Starting high school is an exciting milestone for students and families. Moving from Year 6 to Year 7 can feel like a big change. We help every child feel confident and supported during the transition to high school.

Uniform Fit-out and Canteen Orientation Sessions

Saturday 14 November 2026

To help everyone prepare for their first day, we invite families to book a uniform fit-out and canteen orientation session. Early bookings are recommended as places fill quickly!

Families will receive emails with further instructions at each stage of the process.

First day for students in 2027

Wednesday 3 February 2027

The first day of school for all students is Wednesday 3 February 2027. Year 7 students will assemble in the school hall for an 8:40am start.

What to expect in high school

High school brings new experiences and routines, including:

• a larger school with more subjects, teachers and classrooms
• a timetable with different lessons each day
• moving between classrooms and carrying books and equipment
• more independence and responsibility for homework and study
• new friendships and opportunities to join activities and clubs

Before your child starts Year 7

Enrolment consultation

Before your child begins, families may be asked to meet with our principal or key staff. This is a time to share:

• medical conditions or allergies
• family circumstances that may affect your child’s start
• any learning or wellbeing needs

We will also explain the supports our school provides, such as:

• support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students through personalised learning pathways
• extra support for students learning English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D)
• support for students with disability or other learning needs through inclusive education programs.

Our transition program

We work closely with local primary schools to help students feel ready. Our transition to high school programs helps Year 6 students get ready for Year 7.  Activities include:

• orientation days and school tours
• parent information sessions and meet the teacher events
• subject tasters, transition days and classroom visits
• peer support activities with older students

Students, parents and carers can join these sessions to learn about daily schedules, uniforms, lunches and communication. If you need an interpreter, let us know.

Year 7 Orientation

We are excited to welcome our incoming Year 7 students to the high school orientation day!

• Date: Tuesday, 1 December 2026

• Time: 8:30am Registration

Students should arrive in full primary school uniform. Additional information for parents will be provided in Term 4. Parents and students are welcome to attend this invitation-only event.

Parent Information Sessions - At Your Local Primary School!

Tuesday 15 September 2026 & Wednesday 16 September 2026

Our Principal and Deputy Principal at Turramurra HS will be visiting local primary schools to meet informally with parents of students currently in Years 4, 5 and 6.

These sessions are available to all parents considering Turramurra HS for their child's secondary education. If you are not a current parent of the primary schools listed in the flyer below you are also welcome to attend.
